The Hydrographic Society of America-Houston Chapter's December Technical Meeting

The Hydrographic Society of America - Houston Chapter's December Technical Meeting

Location: Online - Register for meeting link

Speaker - Chris McHugh, Technical Manager - Terrasond, Ltd.

Title: Benefits and challenges of an all sensors one pass approach for high resolution shallow geophysical surveys and why they are needed.

Additional Info: Due to State and Federal promises for OWF energy, contractors are pushing survey and construction agendas requiring single pass data collection/multi-vessel approaches with full on-board processing for the Wind Energy Areas (WEAs) and Export Cable Routes (ECRs). This creates unique problems for data storage, data management, acoustic interference, use of ASVs, offshore communication, among others. It also presents an opening for innovation and re-inventing the way surveys have been done in the past. This presentation will discuss the challenges faced and how the industry is overcoming them and what the future might look like.

About the Speaker: Chris McHugh is currently a Project and Technical Manager at TerraSond Limited, with over 7 years experience in marine science, applied marine geophysics, and hydrographic science. An advocate for education, he also teaches as an adjunct at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and as the University of Southern Mississippi. Chris holds a Category A certification from the International Hydrographic Organization and is a NSPS/ACSM Certified Hydrographer. He is a regular speaker at various hydrographic and geophysical conferences on his research which include GNSS and Acoustic positioning techniques, autonomous surveying, and high-resolution geophysical data correlation. Chris holds a BS in Marine Science from Coastal Carolina University and a MSc in Hydrographic Science from the University of Southern Mississippi.
