DEA’s Marine Services division is an award-winning leader in the field of hydrographic and geophysical surveying. DEA Marine Services is staffed by a highly experienced group of professional hydrographers, surveyors, engineers, and scientists with wide-ranging expertise in hydrography, oceanography, marine geology and geophysics, geodesy, and geospatial science. We are recognized as trusted advisors to our clients and take pride in our ability to develop innovative field programs and geospatial products to address the specific objectives of each project.

We are currently seeking a Hydrographic SurveyOperations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Vancouver, WA office and coordinating nationwide operations.  This is a salaried office-based position that may require work on weekends, off-hours and some field work during peak field season to support field operations.

As an Operations Manager, your responsibilities will be diverse and will include: equipment and staff scheduling; support of field operations; coordinating staffing and equipment with other regions to support nationwide operations; managing training programs; oversight of warehouse manager and equipment technicians; oversight of inventory and insurance schedules; work with the Director of Marine Services on equipment acquisitions; and providing mentorship for hydrographic and equipment technicians based in Vancouver. In part, this leadership includes achieving the following outcomes:

  • Working closely with project managers for vessel, equipment, and staff scheduling to maximize operational efficiency, initially this will be working closely with the Director of Marine Service.

  • Assuring that the services provided by hydrographic and equipment technicians satisfy DEA's contractual obligations and are responsive to each client's needs, technically excellent, and cost-effective.

  • Collaborating with the IT Manager and Warehouse Manager for implementation of new systems or modifications to meet project needs.

  • Supporting field operations, assisting with troubleshooting, and coordinate resolution of issues encountered to keep operations on schedule and budget.

  • Managing technical and safety training to develop safe and efficient operations.

  • Providing project logistics support and direction to hydrographic and equipment technicians during mobilization and demobilization of vessels and equipment. 

  • Assisting project managers with review and development of activity hazard analysis and safety plans for projects.

  • Assuring that DEA's policies and procedures, including risk management, equipment tracking and quality process systems are in place, function, are performed consistently, and promote all company values.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong project management and offshore operations management skills 

  • Degree in Geomatics, Engineering, Hydrography, Oceanography, Geology or related science field

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing, conducting, and processing hydrographic, oceanographic and marine geophysical surveys

  • Must be self-motivated, detail oriented and safety conscious

  • Demonstrated ability directing and overseeing offshore survey operations

  • Experience managing onshore and offshore safety protocols and procedures 

  • Ability to travel to support field operations as needed (project startup, infill for staff shortages, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong trouble shooting skills and working knowledge of hydrographic and marine geophysical systems and current on new developments in the industry

  • NSPS-THSOA Certified Hydrographer

  • Licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor or Engineer
